Nestopia looks and feels like a simple Visual Basic program, but actually, it is a complicated C++ program. So, let’s explore all of nestopias features and tell the final grade.
FILE:
- Here you can load roms, load/save state, record sounds, play NES movies (What the hell are those!?), and launch the file manager (launcher), that’s about it.
MACHINE:
- For the love of god don’t change anything in here except the reset button (Always, ALWAYS restart
SOFT).
NETPLAY:
- Is excellent, you can join servers just like in Doom or CoD, highly recommended
- Joining is not yet supported
VIEW:
- Nothing special in here, you now screen size, fullscreen ON/OFF
OPTIONS:
- Change video settings, input controls, and increase audio volume (Let everybody hear the Super Mario theme.)
- Change all main emulator preferences in Preferences
HELP:
- I wonder what hides under HELP!!!!
In Nestopia you may notice some bugs, but you have to know, that there are only two NES emulator above version 1.0, and one of them emulator (which shall remain nameless) can’t even run games properly. So this emulator (version 1.28) is the only quality emulator on the market left.
And here are the Final Numbers (scale 1-10):
Graphics: 9
All games look like you are playing them on NES, but many visual bugs are present (mostly in one game).
Sound: 10
Of all emulators I have seen, this is the only one that can both mute, increase and decrease volume, whilst leaving the quality of the sound unchanged.
Gameplay: 10
I know, I know, this is an emulator, so how can there be gameplay? Well you see (or read)
you can get hooked on to some games so easily, I have become a Donkey Kong playing, barrel jumping ADDICT.
Altogether kind of grade: 9
How come I gave it a 9 when, just above you can see two tens and just one nine, well this is a great emulator, but graphical bugs are just too big for me not to notice.
